Should Fall Sports Be Cancelled?

COVID-19 has affected sports from all levels including professional, collegiate, high school, and recreational. Many conferences such as the PAC-12, MAAC, Big Ten and many other conferences have announced that all of the sports in the fall will be cancelled. High schools and elementary schools are following this same format as well.

In my opinion, I feel like this is a safe and smart decision. At the end of the day, athletes and staff safety is more important. However, I still feel bad for the athletes however as they lose their season. Also, it is only one season that fans and spectators will not have to watch.

Professionally, the NFL has made many new rules and laws to make sure the season can progress on time. Some of the biggest rules they have made is cancelling the preseason games, no fans in attendance for any events, and players and staff must be tested every time they enter the facility.

I do not think the NFL season should be cancelled due to the safety and protocol the league has implemented. I will not judge any player that opts out because families safety is the main priority. I respect Nate Soldier opting out due to his and his son’s medical history.

I wish Fall Sports were not cancelled, but at the end of the day everyone needs to do what is best for them and to stay safe.
